As Barry mentioned in a blog post earlier today, even though it is a Holiday many of us are here working. There are several reasons why we do this, but first off we have a floating holiday schedule here. I for one like the flexibility it provides, if the weather is going to be nice and my family is doing something, like a BBQ or anything, then I can take the holiday and enjoy the day, if nothing is planned I just go to work and use the day later.
Now lets get into the benefits of working on days that others consider holidays:
1. Free day off at a later time. As mentioned earlier, if nothing is going on you get a free day to use later, thats one of the biggest pluses.
2. Traffic is extremly light. It normally takes me at least 45 minutes to get to work, on a holiday like today, it took about 30.
3. The office is very quiet. Even though many of us are in, normally all of the clients are out. This means no phone calls, and very few if any emails to deal with. So it normally gives us a day to either catch up or get ahead on many of the things we have to do. Normally we don't require much feedback from clients, so this really just gives us a chance to put our heads down and get some things done.
I guess that about wraps it up. Not very complicated, but these quiet days usually a much needed break, and a good time to clear the desk.
