When Google did their Pacman Doodle, it was estimated that 4.82 million hours of lost productivity was realized worldwide, costing millions of dollars in lost time. Today, with the new iPhone 4 being available for pre-order today, there is a tremendous amount of time being lost.
I was lucky enough to wake up at 4am to order the iPhone and had a few early hiccups but eventually it went through. Ronnie pre-ordered with no issue around 7am (EST) and Jimmy ordered about 8am with few issues as well. But when Alex came in and tried ordering 10 minutes after he almost was able to order it but at the very last step, it kicked him back.
Since then, he and an other 4 RustyBrickers have been trying to pre-order the iPhone 4 and they haven't had any luck. It is pretty much the same deal for everyone out there trying to pre-order after 8:30am. The screen I see on most computer screens in the office this morning looks like this:
So how much time is being wasted refreshing the Apple Store to pre-order the iPhone 4? At this rate, it will cost RustyBrick in the thousands of dollars. Obviously, the team here is not just sitting their refreshing, they are working on their other screens (most of us have 3 screens). But imagine those who can't multi-task?
