Several months ago, we decided to purchase a Roomba to do a nightly cleaning of our ~2,000 square foot office space. I wanted to share some of our feedback on how well it does the job, at least for our specific office.
RustyBrick is on the second floor of an office space with no levels. The office layout is divided into two primary sections, so we focus the Roomba to operate in the main employee work area and it rarely ventures into the other division of the office. The Roomba doesn't go into the kitchen, the secondary smaller offices and often not into the conference room. It simply doesn't reach that far. We have about 20-25 employees in our office on a daily basis - not including clients, guests and other random people that might walk in without an invitation.
The Roomba 100% picks up a ton of stuff, I can see it whenever I empty the garbage collection area inside the Roomba. It however does not do as good as a job that a human can do. The night after our human cleaning services comes, you can clearly see the difference in how clean the office is compared to the nightly Roomba run.
This specific Roomba should return home, to the dock and charging station but about 35% of the time, the Roomba gets lost. Either under a desk, attached to an Ethernet cable or stuck between chairs or something else. Finding it is always a pain, but somehow someone in the office returns it home.
Outside of that, it is a good purchase and gets into places that probably the human cleaning service won't go. We set it to run nightly sometime after 9pm, so it doesn't disturb anyone.
